I know. Shocking but true. The Humal Sequence Book 4 (title still pending) is about a third done. Progress has been slower than I’d like due to outside pressures and commitments, but it is still underway.

Also, for those who haven’t tried it yet, A Breath of Hope will be on sale at Smashwords for the princely sum of $1.99 for the nest month or so. All you have to do is enter the following promo code: MQ68Y during the checkout procedure to take advantage of price offer.

Sadly, Amazon and other retailers do not support this functionality. However, it is a relatively (I’m told) trivial matter to convert formats and Smashword offers a lot of them natively anyhow. So you might have luck with that!

More as it happens.

I have been neglecting to update things here for a while, so here is the lowdown.

I’m working on the final installment of the Humal Sequence. Progress is slow, but steady at this point. There are a lot of threads to tie up and I took some considerable amount of time getting both the plot and the character arcs straight in my head before writing even one word. Then came the inevitable notes and ideas phase, where I scribble down everything that comes into my head that I’d like to see in the story.

So now I am actually writing the story and things are going well. Of course, my initial ideas and plot have already been amended as other ideas occurred to me as I was writing, so there will, as always, be a certain amount of deviation from that original concept. I’m used to that. Having a plot is one thing, but when you write the characters, quite often they will suggest alternative paths to follow simply because, if you stay true to their character, that is what they would do! So I’m used to that.

It’s still early days in the writing process, but I’m pleased with how it’s going so far.

In the meantime, I’m working on the final book in the Humal Sequence. Wrestling would be a better term to use, however, since tying up all the loose ends in a convincing manner is proving more difficult than I envisaged. But progress is being made.

So. The Hand of Erebus is now available across Amazon and Smashwords. What’s next?

Well, I took a few days off to recharge a little. Honestly though, I get bored and fidgety if I don’t write anything for a while. So I continued working on the next episode in the Revenant Syndrome series. I say episode, because I’ve decided to write the whole thing as a series of novellas, rather than full length novels. I’m finding the shorter format focuses my mind on what’s important in the story.

More importantly, the shorter length is quicker to write. I could put out one a month if I got my proverbial finger out. Unfortunately, I have other projects that also demand my time. But a novella in between those larger projects seems quite workable.

I know I said I wasn’t keen to work on three different series at once, but it is not as hard as it seemed. It takes a few days from the end of one project before I really get into the next, different universe setting, but I do get there.

So, a new Revenant Syndrome tale, continuing the story from the first one, will be available probably by the end of March. That’s what I’m aiming for, anyway.

Following that, of course, the final book in the Humal Sequence awaits my attention. I know people are eager to see how it all turns out. I’ve made a considerable mountain of notes, ideas and plot points etc., all of which suggest to me that it won’t be a small book! However, it will be the final book in this series. On that I am determined. Just don’t blame me if it turns into a monster!

So far there is a lot of action planned for that final tale. Once I start writing it proper, rather than making notes, I’ll go into more detail about what you can expect from it (no spoilers, I promise!). For now, though, as ever, patience is the key.

I’ve also come up with another idea for a series I might like to pursue at some point. I come up with ideas all the time. Some seem good, but then after thinking about it I find a glaringly obvious fault. Others seem merely… meh… then I think of a hook, or some nice plot device to go along with them. Then they become interesting.

I also have ideas for a couple of standalone stories that might make a nice break for me from the epic series. All of these ideas, however, have to wait their turn in the queue.

For now though, back to the keyboard! Have a good weekend.

So the first draft is back from being proof-read. I now have the fun task of going through the manuscript and checking all the suggested amendments and corrections.

Fortunately, this time around there are no suggested re-writes, just a few places where I need to clarify things a little. That said, I suspect I’ll be working on it for the rest of this week, at least.

However, things are on the final stretches! It’s taken longer than I’d hoped, due to the holidays, illness(es) and me scandalously taking a few days off, but at least we’re in the home stretch now.

Have a good week everyone.
